Exciting news to share on the Skateparks for Dallas.org front, we have now gone fully independent! A member of our board has experience running a large Dallas non-profit as the treasurer, so they set us up our own 501c3 with the State of Texas and IRS. We are still 100% all volunteer (no paid staff), but we are 120% amped for the future of skateparks in Dallas!
What does that mean for you, the local action sports enthusiast and skatepark supporter? Nothing changes other than we are working to get bigger and better in 2022 and beyond! It also means we can collect donations directly, and they are tax deductible for you!
Having a non-profit does involve incurring some operating expenses directly, but our founders pay 100% of our administration costs themselves, so your donations go only to skatepark and action sports activities in Dallas. Yahoo!
What is Skateparks for Dallas raising money for?
Programming - we want to support skate board lessons at Bachman Lake. We have already received a large grant, but we are looking to match it with individual donors to double the impact
Skatepark Master Plan - we want skateparks and action sports facilities in all 14 council districts in Dallas. If we fulfill the mission, that means we will be part way towards having enough facilities for all the interest. The city is working on a master plan, but we can accelerate it with our own $$ if we can raise them.
Upgrading St. Francis Skatepark at Lakeland Hills. Adding features and converting some or all of them to permanent structures instead of the rusted metal currently there.
